Credited with DMK's impressive performance in the Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu, M K Azhagiri, elder son of M Karunanidhi, makes his maiden foray into the UPA government as a Cabinet minister. Fifity-nine-year-old, DMK patriach's son is credited with the party's growth in Madurai and adjoining areas while keeping a check on the growth of opposition AIADMK. Azhagiri, who has a good rapport with grassroots level workers, is largely responsible for the party-led alliance's good performance in the just-concluded assembly elections.
